The issue
Anti-microbial resistance (AMR) is a silent pandemic that is estimated to cause approximately 33,000 deaths each year in Europe. A multi-faceted strategy is needed to successfully manage AMR. An abundance of evidence demonstrates that vaccines are critical in helping to combat the growing AMR crisis, by helping prevent both bacterial and viral diseases, as well as commonly-acquired bacterial infections, including hospital-acquired infections (HAIs).
The upcoming revision of the Council Recommendations on AMR provides a great opportunity to update European policy recommendations and incorporate best practice based on lessons learnt over the last two decades.
